Vinesh Phogat was disqualified even before she could fight in the wrestling final of the Paris Olympics. After this, various types of reactions are coming forward. The statement issued by the Indian Olympic Association said that when Vinesh’s weight was measured before entering the pre-quarterfinals on Tuesday, it was 49.9 kg, which was fine to enter the 50 kg weight category. However, after playing three rounds, pre-quarterfinal, quarterfinal and semi-final on Tuesday, his weight became 52.7 kg, which was 2.8 kg more.

Now the biggest question arising is that how did Vinesh’s weight increase by 2.8 kg within 12 hours? After all, what happened that Vinesh was suddenly no longer eligible to participate in this weight category?

The doctor said- To maintain energy, we give water and some energetic food to the athletes. It kind of counter balances. If you can lose weight, you can compete with less good players. Many wrestlers do this. There is a strategy under which you can get your energy back, but the amount of water and food also has to be kept in mind. The team present with the wrestler is responsible for calculating this. The diet that Vinesh needed to gain to hit the mat was 1.5 kg.

This team has been working with Vinesh for a long time. Vinesh herself is comfortable working with that team. So he took a diet of 1.5 kg, which he needed to fight three bouts. One thing to be noted here is that when you lose weight through dehydration, you need water. By doing this there is also a risk of adverse increase in your weight.

Vinesh’s weight increased by 2.8 kg

The doctor said- ‘When Vinesh took to the mat thrice on Tuesday, all three of her matches were tough. They need water to protect themselves from dehydration, so that there is energy left in your body. If this does not happen, you will fall ill and your medical condition will not be such that you will be able to compete. In such a situation you need nutrition and water. When his weight was measured after the semi-finals, it was 2.7 kg more than the prescribed weight limit. That means Vinesh’s weight was 52.7 kg.

Vinesh’s weight before the pre-quarterfinals was 49.9 kg, which means her weight increased by a total of 2.8 kg. He said- After this the team and coach started their work, which included sweating, taking limited amount of water, no food. This usually requires time, but we didn’t have much time. We only had 12 hours. In such a situation, our team tried every possible effort throughout the night so that Vinesh could lose weight.

If we had some more time, we could have reduced even 100 grams.

The doctor said – We were given time from 7.15 am to 7.30 am, we tried even then and when we got the final weight done at 7.29 am, there was 100 grams more in it. If we had a few more hours of time, we could have managed that 100 grams also, but we did not have time.
